Music has always been my way of connecting cultures, emotions, and stories. I am Babak Kamgar, an Iranian composer, producer, performer, and music therapist based in Europe. My work spans film scoring, concert music, and interdisciplinary productions, blending the richness of Persian musical heritage with contemporary cinematic language. My musical journey began at the age of nine in Iran, where learning and performing music often required determination and resilience. Growing up under significant cultural restrictions taught me that music is more than an art form—it is a powerful means of expression, identity, and human connection. Those early experiences continue to shape both my artistic vision and my approach to composition. After moving to the Netherlands, I studied at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen and HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, where I refined my compositional voice and expanded my artistic perspective through international collaboration and contemporary music practices. My work has received international recognition, including the Best Music for a Short Film award at the Unheard Film Festival (The Netherlands) and a nomination at the 16x9 Film Festival in New York. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to creating music that resonates across cultures and reaches audiences through emotion and storytelling. Alongside my career as a composer, I trained in music therapy and have collaborated with refugees, multicultural communities, and social initiatives. This work has reinforced my belief that music can foster dialogue, empathy, and understanding, bringing people together beyond language and cultural differences. Today, I compose original music for film, concert performance, theatre, and cross-cultural collaborations. Whether writing for the screen, the concert hall, or interdisciplinary productions, my goal is to create music that tells meaningful stories, evokes genuine emotion, and builds lasting bridges between cultures.
